Arriving in New York

Flight

Whereas the big city-girl Rachael had flown transcontinental with Virgin before, Andi had only ever gone across the pond to Canada in a little jet.

We gorged on free snacks and double gin and tonics and watched Sing 2.

JFK to the hotel

After landing in JFK on the Sunday evening, we got a taxi to the hotel.

This was Andi's first real glimpse of New York city and the point at which he started to realise how crazy it was.

The taxi ride was stressful and chaotic with lots of horns, big trucks and cutting other people up.

Hotel

We stayed right opposite the Rockefeller Center and had Radio City at the end of our block.

Despite Andi's fear of heights, the hotel decided to put up a room on the 17th floor, where it was too high to even see the street! The lift (elevator) wasn't too confidence-inspiring either...

An evening walk

After getting settled in, we had a quick walk before bed up to Central Park and took some photos of the skyline.

Times Square

We then decided to walk a little bit past our hotel on the way back and ended up in Times Square at nighttime which was a tad bit overwhelming for two people from the south-west of England.

Rachael's memory

"I enjoyed our lovely evening walk from the chaos of the city up to the calm and beauty of Central Park"

Andi's memory

"I will definitely not forget seeing the New York skyline for the first time and experiencing the chaos on the roads!"
