The Mount Batten Tower
The tower
Originally built in the 1650's, this limestone tower was later armed with light anti-aircraft guns and anti-ship/submarine searchlights during the World Wars.
It was once owned by RAF Mount Batten and decomissioned in 1986. You can read more about the history of Mount Batten Tower.
It has been used for weddings since 2018.
The decision
We visited the tower in August 2021 as an "alternative" option and immediately fell in love with it.
Views
From the top of the tower you have a near-360° of Plymouth Sound, the Hoe, Sutton Harbour and Plymstock.
Inside
The inside of the tower has been stripped out and kept as simple as possible.
The three original floors (higher ranks at the top, lower ranks in the middle and the armoury below) have been combined into a single large chamber which has been licenced for wedding ceremonies.
